The Royal Hotel

Great location, just across the road from the railway station. Beautifully decorated for Christmas in Reception and dining area. Rooms are somewhat dated but clean and warm. The room we stayed in on the top floor had really creaky floorboards. Tea and coffee in room with biscuits and a chocolate. My only real complaint about the room was the lack of ventilation in the bathroom as there was no fan and no way of opening the window. Bar was good and the evening meal we had was fine. It's a very old building that could do with a little TLC. I would stay here again.

Stayed here twice now, the location is key for the city centre and train station. Parking isn't good but the station carpark is just over the road and has Cctv. Now the hotel is very old and here is why it's dropped a star. It's Fawlty Towers esq! Uneven floors, squeaky beds it's vintage! The hot water is a gamble as to whether you get any! There are signs everywhere saying it may take a while when the hotel is busy but 20 minutes of running the shower and it was intermittently tepid the cold. The bar is comfortable and welcoming unless there's a rugby match on them you can't put a pin between people. Can't grumble about the food in the restaurant, breakfast has a number of options to choose from full English to hot pancakes. Usual pastries, fruit and cereals. Booking the restaurant for an evening meal is advised.

Food review only. This place has been a traditional place for us to meet and eat for some years. It has served us well. It may not be top of the range but it is reliable and good value. Very handy for the station.

Room was spacious with a modern ensuite and quality towels and toiletries. It was nice to have hot breakfast items cooked to order and the buffet provided a good selection of additional items that were constantly topped up. Everything was delicious and well-presented. The staff could not have done more for you and we would have no hesitation in staying here again when we are next in the area.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds extremely comfortable; however, the unreliable plumbing in Room 107 meant a very cold shower on Morning 1. However, after telling the person on the desk ( all members of staff are accommodating and friendly), the issue was dealt with immediately. The Service and Location are second to none- excellent!

Enjoyed our recent stay at The Royal Hotel. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our evening meal was excellent on the 2 nights that we stayed. Breakfast was also very good with an varied selection of cooked options like pancakes. The hotel is in a very good location with an easy walk into Bath. There is parking for 6 cars in the nearby hotel car park which is why we choose this hotel and you need to book a space. The train station is just across the road. This historic building is a listed property and is full of character. Our bedroom was very clean and tidy. Would stay here again.

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend spent in Bath. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The whole building is clean, charming and characterful. The food is very tasty and filling. Location is extremely convenient and the staff are lovely. Thank you again we really enjoyed our wedding anniversary time there. I wish you much success in the future.

I stayed at The Royal Hotel over the weekend with my family. We booked large double room. It is a charming mid-range hotel located directly opposite Bath Spa train station, making it an ideal base for exploring the city. Designed by the famed Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the hotel retains much of its historic character while offering modern comforts. Location & Atmosphere Its central location is unbeatable—just a short walk from the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and other key attractions. The building itself is a Grade II listed Victorian structure, exuding timeless charm with a Parisian-style brasserie and cosy lounges. Room is decorated in traditional style with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, and tea/coffee-making facilities. Bedding includes Merino wool blankets, goose feather pillows, and Egyptian cotton linens, adding a touch of luxury. However, the overall décor feels a bit dated, and there are signs of wear and tear in places. That reflects in the price. So you can't really complain about it. Breakfast is hearty and includes proper tea service with a teapot and strainer—details that guests appreciate. Service & Value Staff is friendly, professional, and helpful. The hotel offers 24-hour reception, room service, and baggage storage. We dealt with at least five front desk staff members and all were very friendly and helpful. The location was so convenient (across from train station) and they stored our bags so we could explore the city on our departure day. Breakfast was better and more affordable than most other places.

For such an old building it is maintained to an excellent standard. The reception staff are most welcoming. You even have ground filter coffee in room!
